Catapulting with Ms. Appel

All students were challenged to construct catapults for a fun and educational first day opener.
They then collected data to see how mass of objects, cotton ball and candy pumpkins, affected the distance the objects were projected.
This STEM activity integrated science, technology, engineering, and math through the engineering design process.
The principle of energy changes from potential to kinetic was highlighted, as well as need to test and improve models was experienced.
The use of catapults for defense in history and biowarfare were also discussed.
Through use of testing their models, measurement in  metric system was reviewed, as well as computing averages.
